The Grim Reaper, watching alongside me, answered while gazing at the children.
“She was an aspiring nursery teacher. She loved children to begin with. You can see how naturally the children are drawn to her.”
“Hmm.”
“What’s up?”
For a while, I remained silent, observing the woman. At the same time, the abacus in my mind calculated swiftly. Yes, it adds up perfectly.
Filled with satisfaction, I turned to the Grim Reaper.
“I’ve decided. I’ll go with her.”
“Eh?”
Ignoring the surprised Grim Reaper, I darted through the cloud, bypassing the children and standing in front of the woman.
“Young ones, could you lend me this lady for a bit? Hey, I have something to show you, too.”
She looked up at me, her hair softly waved around her shoulders, her brown eyes innocent. Her thin body had slender arms and legs. Hmm, she’s quite alright.
“What?”
This woman, probably unaware that I was assessing her appearance, gestured for me to sit beside her with an innocent expression. She seemed a bit older than me. Still young, huh? Hmm.
We sat side by side on the cloud, introducing ourselves.
“Look at this boy.”
Saying so, I used magic to project Zinon. Ah, I can still use magic.
“Queen, I apologise, but…”
“It’s fine, I’ll be there soon. I’m counting on you for the rest.”
I showed her an image of young Zinon and the Queen from the past. Of course, to capture this child-loving woman’s heart.
The ethereal and slenderly beautiful Queen was smiling at Zinon’s nursemaid. Zinon, standing in front of the Queen, had his lips slightly pursed, his small back being gently stroked as he tried not to cry. Her younger brother, Axel, was attached to the Queen’s back with tears in his eyes.
Look at this contrast. Isn’t it adorable? I peek at Rin’s expression as she quietly watches Zinon from the side. Seeing Zinon with his bright blue eyes and sparkling blond hair, she’s showing a radiant smile. See, Zinon is cute, isn’t he? He’ll grow up to be even more handsome, won’t he?
“Mommy, don’t leave. Why can’t you stay with us? I want to be with you more.”
“I’m sorry, Axel. Let’s have breakfast together tomorrow morning. And Zinon, I’m sorry.”
The Queen looked troubled. Zinon, with an expressionless face, seemed exasperated as he silently pulled Axel away. Axel began to cry.
“Shut up. If you don’t stop crying, I’ll freeze you with my ice magic. Mother, just go. I’ll take care of the rest.”
“Thank you, Zinon. I’m counting on you.”
Zinon stared at the closed door, a tear welling in his clear blue eyes. I’ve been watching Rin’s reaction all this time, and it seems my plan is working perfectly.
Reading the thoughts of cute little Zinon, who must be lonely but is putting on a brave front, Rin clutched her chest as if it was being squeezed. She really does have a soft spot for children.
“See, isn’t he cute? This boy.”
“Yes, he’s very cute. Adorable. I feel like hugging him tight.”
“I’m glad. Can you please do that? As much as you want.”
“Eh?”
“This boy is a prince of a country, and from a very young age, he’s been educated to become a king. That’s why he’s always working hard like this, not even able to be spoiled by his mother. Isn’t it adorable?”
“Is that so? Poor thing.”
“That’s not all. He has a dream of marrying a girl he loves, but he’s already giving up on it. This cute little boy is suppressing his own dreams because of his responsibilities. Don’t you think that’s pitiful?”
“Eh, that’s so pitiful.”
“Right? It’s pitiful, isn’t it?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t you want to make him happy?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Do you think you can love this boy?”
“Hmm? He’s very cute. Anybody would love such a hardworking and adorable boy.”
“But he can’t be loved by just anyone.”
“Eh?”
“What if it has to be you? What would you do?”
“Eh? What do you mean? You can’t just spring something like that on me.”
Even though she was confused, seeing Zinon wiping away his tears secretly, Rin leaned forward with a worried expression.
“Right? If it has to be you, would you love him?”
Rin hummed thoughtfully. After a moment, she opened her mouth.
“Of course, I would love him. He’s a very adorable boy. If it’s me, I would love him, cherish him, and make him happier than anyone else.”
I flashed a wide smile and gave a signal to the Grim Reaper, who had been watching the situation.
“I’ve decided!”
“She’s the one you’ve chosen to reincarnate with? Are you sure? You won’t be able to return to your original world.”
“It’s okay, there’s another one like me.”
“Huh?”
Rin, who was tilting her head in confusion with the Grim Reaper, gave a fluffy and cute smile.
“I can give an unexpected gift. This is a real gift from heaven.”
My childhood friend, who has been with me through thick and thin.
I’ll leave a gift behind as I step back and live freely.
I’ll give that impish man what he desires.
(You’ll thank me, Zinon.)
I smiled elegantly atop the cloud.
